A few tips

The cover letter

It is one of the most important parts of your application. In any case, it should be individually written and not simply copied from elsewhere.

In the introduction, you refer to...

  • the location of the job advertisement (e.g. APL homepage)
  • a telephone conversation that may have taken place beforehand (with whom?)
  • an internship
  • a member of staff from the company  

Try an original introductory sentence, if possible with reference to news about the company (best to research on the Internet).

Why do you want to work with us and contribute your knowledge?

  • Tell us exactly what your motivation is
  • Also tell us why you would like to pursue exactly this profession
  • Be honest and avoid standard phrases

Why are you exactly the right person for this job / this apprenticeship?

  • Advertise yourself
  • Describe your current situation
  • Tell us why you are the right person for the job
  • Name your strengths

Why us?

  • Tell us why you absolutely want to work with us
  • What do you particularly like?
  • Why would you like to be part of our team?


  • You want to introduce yourself personally and are looking forward to a conversation with us

The curriculum vitae (CV)  

These points should be included:

Personal data

  • Name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, date and place of birth. This data is very important for us so that we can get in touch with you.
  • Family status
  • Nationality
  • Names and occupations of parents (for applicants under the legal minimum age)


  • A picture can, but does not have to be included
  • Not a party picture!


  • Specify all of your previous schools
  • Starting with primary school

Practical experience

  • Part-time job, holiday job
  • Already worked abroad?    
  • Internship
  • Language trips
  • Describe exactly what work you have been assigned to

Computer knowledge

  • Office applications
  • Desktop applications
  • Accounting software
  • Social media / Internet
  • Web publishing
  • Please indicate in each case whether your knowledge is basic or in-depth

Language skills

  • First language
  • Any other languages you speak

Indicate all your other language skills and note at which level you speak this language. (For example with "basic knowledge", "good knowledge", "business fluent" or "fluent")


  • Specify a maximum of three
  • Do the hobbies match the apprenticeship?
